The situation in Gaza has escalated, with Israel intensifying its airstrikes as international pressure mounts to lift the blockade and halt the conflict. This comes amid serious warnings about the catastrophic impact on the population due to starvation and the collapse of healthcare services.
The Israeli military reported conducting over 100 airstrikes across Gaza within the last 24 hours, while medical sources indicate that 25 individuals have lost their lives, bringing the total fatalities from starvation to 124 across the region.
Reports suggest that Hamas is concerned about the possibility of a joint military operation by the United States and Israel aimed at rescuing hostages. Moreover, Axios reported that the Trump administration is reconsidering its strategy regarding Gaza.
Simultaneously, there has been a growing international call to end the conflict in Gaza and return to the peace process. Countries in the United Nations, spurred by France’s decision to recognize Palestine, are making efforts to revive the two-state solution. This will be discussed in a ministerial meeting on Monday, from which Israel will be absent. The meeting is intended to pave the way for a summit expected in September.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have held further phone consultations about the dire situation in Gaza.
The British government stated that the leaders emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and called for Israel to lift all restrictions on humanitarian assistance.
The UNRWA Commissioner-General quoted one of his staff members in Gaza, who described the dire state of the people, saying, “The people in Gaza are neither dead nor alive; they are moving corpses.”
