Dubai Municipality has established a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BiOD Technology, a branch of DUBAL Holding, to transform used cooking oil and food grease into renewable biodiesel. This initiative is part of the emirate’s efforts to enhance its circular economy and meet its sustainability objectives.
According to the agreement, BiOD Technology will gather used cooking oils (UCO) and fats, oils, and grease (FOG) from various locations within Dubai and convert them into B100 biodiesel, which is a clean and renewable energy source.
This project aims to minimize environmental pollution, safeguard sewage systems, and reduce wastewater treatment expenses.
“This collaboration marks an important milestone in our goal to promote Dubai’s environmental agenda through innovative and sustainable waste-to-energy methods,” remarked Adel Al Marzooqi, CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency at Dubai Municipality. “By transforming waste into a valuable energy resource, we are making a significant contribution to Dubai’s Vision 2030 focused on environmental sustainability.”

Ahmed bin Fahad Al Muhairi, chairman of BiOD, stated that this partnership emphasizes a mutual dedication to effective, scalable solutions that bolster Dubai’s circular economy. “We aim to create a service ecosystem that contributes positively on a global scale,” he commented.
CEO Shiva Vig added that BiOD is utilizing advanced technologies to convert food waste into high-quality biodiesel, and this partnership will lay the groundwork for expanded recycling and sustainable waste management efforts.
This agreement aligns with Dubai’s long-term environmental initiatives and fosters the growth of the local green economy, further solidifying the emirate’s shift towards cleaner energy solutions.
