Liwa Ajman Strengthens National Identity and Heritage Values

The 10th edition of the Liwa Ajman Date and Honey Festival is currently underway, held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, a member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman. Organized by the Ajman Department of Tourism Development, the event features widespread participation from date farmers and beekeepers from various regions in the UAE as well as other Gulf and Arab countries.

Hind Al Marzouqi, Director of Tourism Development and Marketing and Deputy Chair of the Liwa Ajman Festival Committee, noted that the festival, taking place at the Emirates Hospitality Center, is attracting significant local and international visitors due to its growing prominence and rich schedule of diverse activities appealing to all demographics.

She highlighted the festival’s role in promoting local heritage and supporting sustainable tourism, as well as providing a platform for exchanging experiences among farmers and beekeepers.

Tradition

Khlood Bin Hindi, responsible for the traditional market and farmers’ and beekeepers’ section and a member of the organizing committee, shared that the festival hosts 61 exhibitors from various regions of the country. They present traditional products in an interactive atmosphere that showcases the UAE’s authentic culture and emphasizes Ajman’s status as a unique tourist destination.

Organization

Meitha Al Shamsi, a member of the organizing committee and the craftsperson liaison at the exhibition, emphasized the involvement of artisans showcasing traditional crafts that were absent in previous editions, including “Khud Al-Saqaa,” alongside other UAE heritage crafts such as barqaa and palm weaving.

Workshops

Fatima Al Raeesi, a member of the organizing committee in charge of accompanying workshops, mentioned that the festival features interactive workshops both in the morning and evening in collaboration with several local organizations. These workshops aim to engage participants of all ages and focus on environmental awareness and national values through entertaining and educational activities.

The festival program includes artistic performances, competitions, folk festivals, as well as workshops on agriculture and beekeeping. There is also a dedicated children’s area, and the Abu Dhabi Police Band is participating with traditional musical performances that enhance the cultural atmosphere of the festival.
