On Tuesday, the Lebanese government instructed the army to create an actionable plan for the consolidation of weapons under legitimate forces by the end of the year. This plan is expected to be presented to the Cabinet before the end of the month, as stated by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
At the conclusion of a nearly six-hour ministerial meeting chaired by President Joseph Aoun, Salam reported that the Lebanese army has been tasked with formulating a practical strategy to limit weapons possession to designated entities specified in the ceasefire agreement, referring to the army and security forces. The plan will be discussed and approved by the Cabinet before the 31st of this month.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s Secretary-General, Naeem Qassem, on Tuesday rejected the idea of establishing a timeline for disarmament, threatening to target Israel with missiles if a broader conflict were to erupt against Lebanon.
In his address, he stated, “We refuse to set a timeline for disarmament while the Israeli aggression continues,” adding that “Hezbollah has not agreed to any new understanding with Israel.”
