Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi stated that the conflict in Gaza has evolved beyond political objectives or the release of hostages. It has now turned into a war aimed at mass starvation and annihilation, ultimately seeking to obliterate the Palestinian cause. He emphasized that Egypt will not become a pathway for the displacement of the Palestinian people from their homeland.
In a press conference held in Cairo alongside his Vietnamese counterpart, Le Minh Khai, el-Sisi expressed that the situation in Gaza is being utilized as a leverage tool. He reiterated his call to the global community, European nations, and U.S. President Donald Trump, urging them to step in to halt the conflict and facilitate humanitarian aid into Gaza.
El-Sisi remarked that “history will remember and hold many nations accountable for their stance on the war in Gaza,” highlighting that global humanitarian conscience will not remain silent for long.
The President also dismissed claims of Egypt’s involvement in the blockade of Gaza as unfounded, asserting that over 5,000 trucks loaded with aid are ready at the Egyptian border to enter Gaza from Egypt and other countries.
He stressed that the residents of Gaza are facing systematic extermination and reaffirmed that Egypt has not abandoned its role in delivering humanitarian aid to the Gazan people.
Furthermore, he stated, “For the past two decades, Egypt has made efforts to prevent an escalation in Gaza,” underscoring that Egypt plays a significant role in stopping the conflict and bringing aid to the region.
El-Sisi mentioned, “We had estimates indicating that any attempts at fighting would have devastating effects on Gaza, especially since this is the fifth war where Egypt has actively played a positive role.”
He reiterated that “more than 70% of the humanitarian assistance that has reached Gaza is from Egypt,” noting that Israel maintains a strong presence on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing.
For his part, the Vietnamese president praised Egypt’s efforts to halt the war in Gaza, affirming his country’s support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Earlier today, el-Sisi hosted the Vietnamese president at the Ittihadiya Palace to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and address shared regional and international concerns, as outlined in a statement from the Egyptian presidency.
