UAE Climate: Extreme Highs and Lows in Temperature

This week, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) witnessed significant fluctuations in temperature and some unexpected rainfall, as reported by the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).

In addition to the extreme temperatures, light rain was observed in Showkah and Wadi Isfay, located in Ras Al Khaimah, on Sunday.

The NCM has released a five-day weather forecast starting Sunday, July 27, signaling the potential for intense heat, dusty winds, and intermittent cloud cover across different areas of the country.

Weather system overview

Meteorologists are linking the current weather to a low-pressure system extending from the East, along with a weak disturbance in the upper atmosphere. This system is expected to affect the UAE’s climate for the remainder of the week.

Sunday’s weather forecast – July 27

On Sunday, the weather is anticipated to be predominantly clear to partly cloudy, with a possibility of convective cloud formation in the eastern and southern regions, potentially resulting in scattered rainfall. Humidity levels are expected to rise in coastal areas overnight into Monday morning.

Winds will vary from light to moderate in most regions but may intensify near areas of cloud formation, creating dust and sand that could impair visibility.

Expected Temperatures

  • Coastal and Island Areas: Highs between 42°C and 47°C; lows ranging from 29°C to 33°C. Humidity: 70–90% (max), 25–45% (min)
  • Internal Areas: Highs from 44°C to 49°C; lows between 27°C and 32°C. Humidity: 65–85% (max), 20–35% (min)
  • Mountainous Regions: Highs between 36°C and 41°C; lows ranging from 26°C to 31°C. Humidity: 70–90% (max), 20–35% (min)

Winds: Southeasterly to northeasterly at speeds of 10–25 km/h, with gusts reaching 40–50 km/h in some inland and mountainous areas.

Weekly forecast

Monday, July 28: Generally fair to partly cloudy with ongoing chances of convective clouds in the East and South. Winds will continue from the southeast to northeast, light to moderate, with gusts up to 40 km/h. Visibility might be impacted due to blowing dust. Sea conditions will be slight in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

Tuesday, July 29: Conditions will remain similar with cloud formations expected in the eastern and southern regions. Winds will shift to the northwest, reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h. The Arabian Gulf will likely see slight to moderate waves while the Oman Sea remains calm.

Wednesday, July 30: Partly cloudy skies are expected in the East. Winds will be light to moderate from the northwest, occasionally fresh, leading to raised dust in open areas. Sea conditions will remain stable.

Thursday, July 31: Fair to partly cloudy skies will persist. Winds will change from south-westerly to north-westerly, strengthening throughout the day. Dust and sand could impair visibility in western regions, while rough seas are predicted in the western Arabian Gulf, with the Oman Sea remaining calm.

The NCM advises all residents to stay informed and exercise caution during these extreme weather conditions.
