The General Department of Correctional and Penal Institutions at Dubai Police, in collaboration with the Community Development Authority in Dubai, extended a heartfelt surprise to an inmate by facilitating a special visit from her four children. This reunion came after a long separation due to her imprisonment and family circumstances.
This initiative was part of the “Inmate Happiness” program launched by the General Department to alleviate the hardships faced by inmates during their sentences.
Colonel Jamila Al Zaabi, Director of the Women’s Prison, stated that the department continuously monitors inmates’ situations. They noticed that this particular inmate was isolating herself from others, so they reached out to understand her needs, which revealed her longing for her children whom she hadn’t seen in a long time.
Following a review of the inmate’s story, the department made the decision to create a joyful moment for her by organizing a meeting with her children, in partnership with the Community Development Authority.
The inmate expressed surprise when informed about the upcoming visit. When she came out to meet her visitors, she was overwhelmed to find her children there. The emotional reunion led to tears as she embraced them, making the moment deeply touching.
Colonel Al Zaabi emphasized the department’s commitment to fostering social and humanitarian aspects, and to facilitating communication between inmates and their families, which aligns with Dubai Police’s strategic vision of bringing happiness to the community.
She noted that the humanitarian programs and initiatives by Dubai Police, particularly the General Department of Correctional and Penal Institutions, are vital due to their positive impact on strengthening the relationship and trust between the police and the community. These efforts promote values of tolerance and coexistence, directly alleviating the suffering of inmates and their families.
The inmate and her children expressed their gratitude to the Dubai Police leadership for this thoughtful humanitarian initiative, highlighting that she had always dreamt of such a visit.
