The Riyadh Parking Project has launched a key initiative aimed at implementing the first phase of managed free parking in residential areas, representing a crucial advancement in the organization of public parking and the alleviation of traffic congestion. This initiative seeks to mitigate the overflow of vehicles from commercial streets into adjacent residential neighborhoods, thereby enhancing residents’ quality of life.
Following the successful implementation of paid parking in commercial sectors, this project extends its regulation to residential parking through digital permits available via the Riyadh Parking application. These permits facilitate convenient parking for residents and their visitors while addressing the challenges associated with uncontrolled parking. The pilot program commenced in the Al Worood neighborhood, with future plans for gradual expansion to surrounding areas linked to paid parking zones, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency.

The Riyadh Parking app, which operates in conjunction with the national Nafath platform, provides a secure and straightforward method for residents to manage their parking permits. Compliance is ensured through regular monitoring by vehicles equipped with cameras.
Initiated in August 2024, the Riyadh Parking program is one of the largest smart parking schemes globally, focused on the regulation of over 140,000 unpaid residential parking spaces and 24,000 paid commercial spots distributed across 12 zones. This initiative supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 by striving for a more organized urban atmosphere and enhancing living standards in the city.
