In a development that reflects increasing concerns over the implications of the Palestinian issue and the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, 13 Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives have signed a letter urging President Donald Trump’s administration to recognize the state of Palestine, as reported by Axios yesterday.
These actions come amid a rising tide of violence in the region, prompting several pro-Israel lawmakers to publicly criticize Israeli officials.
According to the report, at least one lawmaker plans to introduce a resolution supporting the establishment of a Palestinian state. This initiative aligns with the growing international recognition of Palestine by countries such as France, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
Moreover, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to hold a cabinet meeting to decide on the next steps in Gaza following the collapse of indirect ceasefire talks. An Israeli official in Netanyahu’s office has indicated that “a decision has been made… we will occupy Gaza”.
This situation unfolds as military escalation continues in the region, with medical sources reporting that 74 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since early yesterday, as airstrikes continue to target various areas of Gaza.
