The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced that he will meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, next Friday in Alaska to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.
Trump stated that Russia and Ukraine are on the verge of reaching a ceasefire agreement that could potentially conclude the conflict, which may involve Ukraine conceding significant territories. He suggested a deal that might include land exchanges.
In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his refusal to surrender any land to Russia.
He warned that any decision taken against Ukraine would be a move against peace and would yield no positive results.
During a phone call with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer yesterday, Zelensky urged European leaders to take definitive steps toward establishing a unified approach ahead of the Alaska summit.
According to *Newsweek*, Trump and Putin are expected to discuss Ukraine’s potential territorial concessions.
The *Wall Street Journal* reported that the Russian President has presented Trump with a ceasefire proposal that involves the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine, without Moscow committing to any terms other than halting hostilities.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and U.S. Vice President Jay DeVance will convene a meeting of European and American national security advisors next Saturday, as announced by Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office.
This meeting is seen as a crucial opportunity to discuss the necessary progress for establishing a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine.
Russian Investment Envoy Kirill Dmitriev indicated that certain countries will make significant efforts to disrupt the Trump-Putin meeting, which he referred to in terms of provocations and disinformation.
Similarly, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Putin, confirmed that the two leaders will focus on discussing options for a long-term peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian crisis.
