The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has intensified its inspection campaigns focusing on the diesel sector in the Ras Al Khor area of Dubai. This initiative aims to enhance public safety and environmental protection while ensuring compliance with local regulations and combating illegal practices in the handling of this essential resource.
A permanent joint field inspection team, established under Resolution No. (1) of 2022 by the Supreme Council of Energy, collaborates with various relevant government entities, including the Civil Defense Authority, Dubai Municipality, the Roads and Transport Authority, the Department of Economy and Tourism, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), to carry out these inspections.
According to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, “These inspection campaigns are a fundamental part of our ongoing efforts to uphold the highest standards of safety and compliance in the energy sector throughout Dubai, in line with the directives of our leadership to ensure a safe and transparent handling of petroleum products. Regulating the diesel sector is a pivotal aspect of our comprehensive efforts. We work collaboratively with stakeholders to address violations that threaten safety or undermine investor confidence, affirming our commitment to providing an efficient and responsible operational environment that supports sustainable development in Dubai and the UAE. The Supreme Council of Energy is dedicated to implementing the highest security and safety standards in all activities related to diesel handling, including transportation, storage, and distribution, whether from diesel trading facilities or through transport tankers.”
He also expressed gratitude towards all participating government agencies, emphasizing the need for rigorous regulatory oversight and coordination with relevant authorities to ensure the highest standards are upheld for the protection of individuals, communities, and institutions. This involves ensuring compliance with the Council’s decisions regarding the trading and distribution of petroleum products in Dubai.
Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Energy and Chair of the Committee for Regulating Petroleum Trading in Dubai, stated that ensuring adherence to the established specifications and standards for diesel is among their top priorities. These inspection campaigns reflect their unwavering commitment to fostering a fair and sustainable business environment and protecting the rights of consumers and law-abiding suppliers.
Furthermore, Burhan Al Hashemi, Vice Chairman of the Committee for Regulating Petroleum Trading in Dubai, noted that significant violations detected included the storage and handling of diesel in unlicensed and unauthorized facilities, as well as the sale and distribution of the product in non-compliant locations and transportation methods. He warned that such practices could lead to serious leaks in soil and groundwater, posing risks to user safety and the environment. The inspections aim to reduce the use of unauthorized or unlicensed trading methods and locations, and the committee, along with the relevant government bodies, will not hesitate to take legal action against offending parties.
