Khor Fakkan Hit by 2.0 Magnitude Earthquake in the UAE

A minor earthquake registering 2.0 on the Richter scale occurred in Khor Fakkan at 20:35 UAE local time on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, as reported by the National Seismic Network of the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

In terms of weather, as the UAE moves further into August, the NCM has released its five-day weather forecast detailing the expected changes in atmospheric conditions from Wednesday, August 6, to Sunday, August 10, 2025, according to a report from WAM.

Weather outlook as summer approaches its end

The region remains influenced by a weak low-pressure system from the east, coupled with an upper air trough. This will result in a mix of clear skies, cloud formation, and localized rainfall, along with the typical summer heat and dusty conditions.

The NCM issued a warning on August 5, advising residents to exercise caution due to strong convective cloud activity linked with rainfall and gusty winds in some eastern areas. Loose items and vulnerable structures may pose risks due to these strong winds and reduced visibility. Individuals are urged to stay away from areas with standing water.

Midweek forecast: Hazy and hot

On Wednesday, August 6, expect a generally fair to partly cloudy start. As the afternoon arrives, the potential for convective cloud development increases, particularly in the eastern regions, which may lead to brief rain showers.

Winds from the southeast to northeast will range from light to moderate, occasionally intensifying and stirring up blowing dust, particularly in inland and open areas. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 km/h, creating hazy conditions at times. Coastal areas and islands will see wind speeds peak at around 35 km/h.

Despite the unsettled atmosphere, sea conditions will remain calm, both in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.

Temperatures will continue to rise, particularly in inland areas where highs could approach 49°C, with humidity dipping to around 10%. Coastal regions will be slightly more temperate, with temperatures between 40°C and 45°C, though humidity levels may reach up to 90%. Mountainous areas are likely to experience more moderate conditions, with highs around 39°C and moderate humidity.

Expect shifting weather patterns

The following days will present a familiar yet subtly shifting weather pattern.

Thursday and Friday will see generally fair to partly cloudy skies, with an increased likelihood of convective cloud development over the eastern and southern regions. Afternoon rain showers are expected in these areas, providing brief respite from the heat.

Winds during this period will generally blow from the southeast to northeast at speeds of 10 to 25 km/h, occasionally rising to 40 km/h, especially during the hottest times of the day, stirring up dust and sand that could impair visibility.

Sea conditions are projected to stay mild, allowing for safe navigation for coastal activities.

Weekend forecast: Continued cloudiness and light winds

As the weekend approaches, Saturday and Sunday are expected to follow similar weather patterns, with skies primarily remaining clear to partly cloudy. The chance for convective clouds forming in the east continues into the afternoon, with the possibility of isolated rainfall.

Winds will maintain their southeasterly to northeasterly direction, with speeds reaching approximately 35 to 40 km/h, leading to occasional dust without major disruptions to daily activities. The sea will remain relatively calm, ensuring safe conditions for maritime pursuits.

Advisory for residents

While much of the UAE will endure typical summer temperatures, residents in eastern and southern areas should remain alert for sudden weather changes in the afternoons. Brief rain could affect driving conditions or outdoor plans.

Dusty winds might also cause reduced visibility during peak hours, particularly in open desert regions. It is advisable to take appropriate precautions if traveling during the warmer parts of the day.

The NCM will continually monitor these conditions and encourages residents to stay updated through official channels, especially when planning outdoor activities or marine ventures.
