The United Arab Emirates has dispatched 30 tons of urgent medical supplies and medications to the Republic of Chad to combat the outbreak of cholera. This initiative is part of the UAE’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian efforts, aimed at strengthening the healthcare sector across Africa and taking prompt actions to prevent the spread of diseases among various communities.
In this context, Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Amiri, head of the UAE’s International Aid Agency, emphasized that under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE remains dedicated to addressing global health challenges wherever they arise. This commitment is reflected through appropriate solutions devised in collaboration with international organizations and relevant agencies worldwide.
He further noted that the World Health Organization has recently warned that the global cholera situation is deteriorating. The organization is particularly concerned about the reported over 390,000 cases and 4,332 deaths due to the disease across 31 countries this year. The warning highlighted cholera’s spread in nations including Chad, underscoring the UAE’s urgent humanitarian response as a testament to its unwavering international commitment to intensifying global efforts to prevent such diseases and deliver timely medical treatments for both prevention and care.
Dr. Al Amiri explained that the UAE’s International Aid Agency will continue to implement external aid programs in line with its overarching humanitarian policy. This includes executing humanitarian response plans, recovery initiatives, and stabilization efforts. The agency aims to provide vital assistance, enhance living conditions, and support communities facing challenges or crises across all continents by partnering with international organizations and local stakeholders to create meaningful and sustainable impact.
