Individuals convicted of crimes in England and Wales may face restrictions that prevent them from attending concerts and accessing sports venues, according to new proposals aimed at enhancing community sentencing powers for judges.
As reported by a UK news agency, these suggestions would not only limit attendance at events but could also introduce driving restrictions, travel bans, and specific zones where offenders are prohibited from being present. Those who violate these conditions could find themselves back in court, facing stricter penalties.
Further, it is proposed that such restrictions could also apply to conditionally released prisoners, while mandatory drug testing would be expanded to cover all individuals released from custody. Notably, the UK government’s search for alternatives to incarceration has been driven by a shortage of prison space.
