Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday that officials in Ukraine have apprehended a suspect in connection with the shooting death of Andriy Parubiy, a prominent pro-Western politician and former parliament speaker.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Zelensky confirmed that an individual had been arrested following Parubiy’s shooting in the city of Lviv on Saturday. Details regarding the suspect and the motive behind the shooting have not been disclosed.
Zelensky stated, “Necessary investigative actions are underway. I have instructed that available information be made public.”
The 54-year-old Parubiy, a legislator from the Lviv region, was notably involved in Ukraine’s Orange Revolution in 2004 and led volunteer defense units during the 2014 Euromaidan protests, which ultimately led to the ousting of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych. He served as the speaker of parliament from 2016 to 2019.
