The Israeli military announced yesterday that it carried out strikes on Hezbollah positions near the Chaqif Fortress in southern Lebanon after detecting “military activity” in the area.
According to the statement, the army “recently targeted military infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah, which included underground facilities where military activity was observed near the Chaqif Fortress in southern Lebanon.”
As reported by the Lebanese National News Agency, “enemy warplanes launched a series of air raids resembling a fire ring targeting the Ali al-Tahir forest and the Debsha area on the northern and eastern outskirts of the town of Nabatieh al-Fouqa.”
The agency noted that the aircraft fired “a significant number of high-explosive missiles, which created a loud blast that echoed in several areas relatively far from the strike zone.” Thick columns of smoke were seen rising from the bombed area.
For the Third Time
According to the agency, “These airstrikes represent the third violent assault on this region in less than three months, with a significant similarity noted between the explosive waves from the Israeli airstrikes on Ali al-Tahir hills and the explosion that occurred at the Beirut port in 2020, although the size of the blast wave here is smaller relative to the amount of materials used.”
Additionally, the agency reported that the strikes caused “material damage to many residential buildings in Nabatieh al-Fouqa, resulting in shattered glass in homes and businesses, along with structural cracks.”
Earlier, the agency reported that an individual was killed when “an Israeli drone targeted his motorcycle with a guided missile” on the route between Nabatieh al-Fouqa and Meifdoun in southern Lebanon. The area experienced intense raids, leading to severe damage.
Moreover, the Kfartabnit – Kharadili road was blocked with stones and debris from the violent airstrikes, prompting an army patrol to work with the Kfartabnit municipality to clear it using a very large bulldozer.
Significant fires broke out in the Ali al-Tahir forest due to the airstrikes, and Lebanese civil defense teams worked to contain and extinguish them.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri called for a dialogue regarding Hezbollah’s weaponry just days ahead of an upcoming government session to review a plan submitted by the army for the disarmament of the organization.
The Lebanese Cabinet is scheduled to meet on Friday following the reception of the army’s plan.
