“Toxic Buttons” Lead to the Downfall of a Drug Trafficking Gang Using Clothing Fasteners

Value of Seized Goods: 4.5 Million Dirhams

Ongoing Efforts by Dubai Police to Combat Drug Trafficking

The Dubai Police have apprehended a gang comprised of three individuals attempting to smuggle 89,760 capsules of Captagon hidden within clothing buttons, with a total weight of 18 kilograms and 931 grams. The estimated market value of this seizure is approximately 4 million and 488 thousand dirhams. This operation was executed in collaboration with the General Directorate for Drug Control in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Dubai Police, the operation named “Toxic Buttons” is part of their continuous and unwavering efforts to combat and thwart the plans of drug dealers and traffickers who seek to spread their harmful substances among youth. The successful operation followed a well-coordinated security plan to monitor the suspects’ movements in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, leading to the identification of the gang that concealed the drugs in an apartment in Dubai and another location within the emirates.

Operation Details

The operation “Toxic Buttons” began when reliable information was received regarding a gang consisting of three members, two of whom are of Arab nationality and one Asian, who were preparing to receive a shipment of narcotics and psychotropic substances for smuggling to a neighboring country, operating under the direction of their leader based abroad. A specialized task force was promptly formed, and legal measures were taken by obtaining a search warrant from the Dubai Public Prosecution to apprehend the suspects and inspect their vehicle and residence.

The Dubai Police monitored the suspects closely in preparation for their arrest, while the gang repeatedly attempted to change the location of the concealed drugs, treating them as merchandise. However, all their movements were under 24-hour surveillance by the drug control units.

Innovative Tactics

The Dubai Police indicated that authorities identified the optimal moment to apprehend the suspects. After close monitoring, they executed a raid. Upon searching the suspects’ residence, they were confident that law enforcement would not discover their concealment method involving clothing buttons, believing it to be a sophisticated and undetectable means of hiding drugs. To their surprise, the experienced anti-narcotics officers uncovered the drugs cleverly concealed within the buttons of the clothing.

Capabilities

The Dubai Police stated that, thanks to both divine assistance and the skill, expertise, and proficiency of their narcotics officers, they effectively addressed and exposed the criminal operations of such gangs, dismantling their networks and countering new concealment methods. This serves as a message to anyone who considers tampering with the well-being of society and the nation or jeopardizing its security and stability, ensuring that criminals are brought to justice to face appropriate penalties.

Moreover, these specialized field operations highlight the advanced capabilities and high professionalism of our security forces in carrying out their duties, employing developed methodologies to detect crime, and implementing well-planned security strategies using the latest technologies to combat criminal activities. They also emphasize the importance of collaboration with law enforcement agencies globally and underscore their international efforts through specialized field teams dedicated to protecting the community from the dangers of drugs and apprehending drug traffickers and dealers.

Success

In conclusion, the Dubai Police affirmed that the success of this operation is a direct result of the support and guidance of wise leadership, which fosters deep and solid relationships between the United Arab Emirates and various countries around the world in the fight against organized crime. The police remain committed to strengthening international cooperation in eradicating organized crime.
