The travel experience at Dubai International Airport has transformed significantly, moving away from the traditional airport routines where passengers wait in lines to check in. Gone are the days when travelers would need to present their passports or IDs to an agent or insert them into a machine for verification.
Today, thanks to innovative developments, the experience is completely different. Following years of implementing smart gates, passengers can now simply walk along a stylish red carpet that automates the check-in process. No need to pause or pull out any documents; the efficiency of the process relies solely on the traveler’s walking speed. The quicker they walk, the faster the check-in. In fact, under optimal conditions, this process may take as little as six seconds—an astounding reduction compared to prior experiences.
The newly introduced smart corridor, often referred to as the “red carpet,” marks a significant milestone in the future of travel. This corridor allows travelers to complete all necessary procedures within mere seconds, eliminating the necessity to stop and show passports, IDs, or boarding passes. It features an innovative design with smart cameras embedded in the red carpet that recognize facial features and perform iris scans, automatically verifying passenger identities and expediting the process seamlessly without human intervention.
This initiative, which was launched in the business class terminal of Dubai International Airport (Terminal 3) for both departing and arriving passengers, is part of the “Hassle-Free Travel” initiative spearheaded by the Dubai Residency and Foreigners Affairs. It enhances efficiency by allowing passengers to move through check-in at speeds up to ten times faster than traditional smart gates, with crossing times measured in just a few seconds based on the traveler’s pace.
The smart corridor will soon be implemented across all terminals at Dubai Airport, representing one of Dubai’s most significant successes in anticipating the future of travel and adopting artificial intelligence technologies. This development promises a seamless and secure experience that enhances passenger comfort and flow, reinforcing Dubai’s status as a leading global destination for smart services and innovation in the aviation sector.
