Zelensky: Arrest of the Suspect in the Murder of Ukrainian Politician Andrei Parubiy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday that officials in Ukraine have apprehended a suspect connected to the shooting death of Andriy Parubiy, a prominent pro-Western politician and former parliament speaker.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Zelensky revealed that an individual was detained following the shooting of Parubiy in Lviv on Saturday. No further details regarding the suspect or the motive behind the crime have been disclosed.

Zelensky stated, “The necessary investigative actions are underway. I have instructed that any available information be communicated to the public.”

Parubiy, 54, was a legislator from the Lviv region who participated in Ukraine’s Orange Revolution in 2004. He also led volunteer self-defense units during the 2014 Maidan protests, which resulted in the ousting of the pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych. He held the position of parliament speaker from 2016 to 2019.
