The summer work schedule for governmental departments and agencies in Dubai will conclude next Friday, as part of the “Flexible Summer” initiative, which the Dubai Human Resources Department has implemented for the second consecutive year.
This initiative allows government entities to divide their employees into two groups according to specific needs. The first group works for eight hours from Monday to Thursday, with Friday being a day off, while the second group operates for seven hours from Monday to Thursday and 4.5 hours on Friday.
This structure ensures that services are available five days a week from Monday to Thursday, operating from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with Friday hours running from 7:30 AM to noon.
The summer working hours began on July 1 of this year and will remain in effect until next Friday, September 12, according to a circular issued by the Dubai Human Resources Department last June.
The “Flexible Summer” initiative reflects the Dubai government’s commitment to creating a motivating and flexible work environment that enhances employee productivity and helps them balance their professional and personal lives, positively affecting the quality of public services offered.
According to the Dubai Human Resources Department, this initiative aligns with the objectives of the “Year of Community,” aiming to support family bonding and improve job satisfaction through a flexible work environment, thus enhancing the effectiveness and productivity of government employees and their families, reinforcing the family’s role as the cornerstone of society.
The initiative exemplifies the Dubai government’s dedication to fostering a flexible and interactive work environment that meets employees’ and community needs alike. Its introduction is based on results from last year’s trial in 2024 and aligns with a vision to develop an advanced governmental framework that balances institutional efficiency and employee well-being, supporting Dubai’s efforts to offer flexible and sustainable human-centered services.
Results from implementing the initiative last year across 21 government entities showed a significant increase in productivity and improvements in the work environment, accompanied by job satisfaction ratings nearing 98%. Reports from the Dubai Government Excellence Performance department highlighted notable progress in the performance of these entities.
