On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the presence of Russian drones in Polish airspace as a “dangerous precedent” for Europe.
Poland reported that it deployed its air defense systems, in conjunction with NATO forces, to intercept drones following a Russian attack on western Ukraine. This marked the first instance during the Ukrainian conflict where Poland engaged with aerial threats within its borders.
Zelensky indicated that no fewer than eight drones were directed at Poland during the nighttime assaults, which saw Russia launch a total of approximately 415 drones and over 40 missiles.
He expressed on the platform X: “Today, we witnessed another escalation – Iranian-made ‘Shahed’ drones flown into Polish airspace, which belongs to a NATO member. This was not just a singular drone incident that could be deemed accidental; there were at least eight drones aimed towards Poland.”
