The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday that it has summoned its ambassador to Israel for consultations amid rising tensions between the two countries related to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and accusations from Israel of anti-Semitism against Spain.
In a statement, the ministry reported, “The Foreign Affairs Ministry has called back Spain’s ambassador in Tel Aviv for discussions in response to the unfounded allegations against Spain and the unacceptable measures taken against two members of the government.”
Earlier, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez declared that steps would be taken “to put an end to the genocide in Gaza,” which prompted Israel to accuse Madrid of anti-Israel sentiments and anti-Semitism, ultimately banning the Spanish Deputy Prime Minister and a minister from entering its territory.
