The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) in the UAE has streamlined the process for renewing and replacing Emirates ID cards.
In line with the second phase of the Zero Bureaucracy Initiative, these services have been merged into a single step, designed to save citizens time and minimize paperwork.
Individuals are now required to simply submit their request and pay the necessary fees. The system will automatically determine the card’s validity period based on the applicant’s age, similar to the method used for UAE passports, as reported by WAM.
Automatic Validity and Simplified Forms
With the new procedure, non-essential information such as address details and redundant pre-stored data have been eliminated to ease the application process. The Emirates ID format is now shown on a single page, facilitating easier review of information by applicants.
Validity periods are assigned automatically: citizens aged 21 and over will receive a validity of 10 years, while those under 21 will be granted a 5-year validity upon renewal. For replacement IDs, the validity aligns with the remaining duration of the current ID, and this cannot be modified by applicants.
Improved Customer Experience Through Technology
The ICP stated that these modifications demonstrate its commitment to reducing bureaucratic processes, modernizing digital services, and enhancing user experience. The updated services can be accessed via the authority’s official website and mobile application, allowing for quicker and more efficient handling of Emirates ID renewals and replacements.
Citizens are urged to utilize these digital platforms for a more seamless and rapid service experience, in support of the UAE’s overarching goal of utilizing technology to enhance government services.
