Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has held Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accountable for the nation’s growing international isolation.
In a statement shared on “X,” Lapid remarked on Tuesday, “Netanyahu stated yesterday that we have become diplomatically isolated and that we may need to adopt a Spartan-like approach.”
Sparta, a city-state from ancient Greece, was renowned for its militaristic society.
Addressing Netanyahu, Lapid asserted, “Did some external force cause this? No, it is you—you’re primarily responsible for Israel’s diplomatic isolation.”
Lapid criticized the Prime Minister for his inaction regarding extremist remarks made by right-wing ministers about Gaza.
Furthermore, he stated that there is no clear political direction, adding, “No one around the world understands what Israel truly wants.”
He expressed uncertainty about how the conflict in Gaza is expected to conclude.
