The European Commissioner for Defense, Andrius Kublis, has announced plans to engage in discussions with defense ministers from Eastern European nations next week regarding the establishment of a “drone wall” along the eastern borders of the European Union. Kublis stated in a press release that some member countries have already begun preliminary discussions about this initiative, and the European Commission is eager to expedite the process of making this concept a reality, aiming to address the significant gap in air defense capabilities against drone threats.
Kublis mentioned that the project is still in its initial stages, but it is anticipated to include a combination of sensors, jamming systems, and various weapons to detect and neutralize hostile drones. He also indicated that it is too early to determine the project’s cost or the timeline for its implementation, although unofficial estimates suggest it could be completed within a year.
