Vietnam has shut down its airports and evacuated thousands of residents in areas expected to be affected by Typhoon Bolaven, which has gained strength as it approaches the country. This comes just days after the typhoon resulted in at least ten fatalities and widespread flooding in the Philippines.
The Vietnamese meteorological agency reported that the typhoon, with wind speeds reaching 133 kilometers per hour as of 02:00 GMT, is anticipated to make landfall in central Vietnam later on Sunday, sooner than previously expected due to its rapid progress.
The government announced that authorities in Ha Tinh Province in the central region began evacuating over 15,000 individuals, with thousands of soldiers on standby for further assistance.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam indicated that operations at four coastal airports, including Da Nang International Airport, have been suspended as of Sunday, resulting in changes to the schedules of several flights.
Moreover, the government reported that heavy rains have already caused flooding in Hue and Quang Tri.
