Next to him was a man whose face was not clearly visible, whispering to him during parts of Trump’s statements.
A meeting between Trump and Zelensky is anticipated later in the day. The Ukrainian leader hopes to hear strong commitments from Trump regarding the U.S. plans to support Ukraine, including the robust sanctions just mentioned by the American president. However, Trump appears to be noncommittal so far, insisting that other countries should also take action, which presents a complex challenge for nations that purchase Russian oil.
Trump has now shifted to discussing immigration, and it is certain that the political movements in Europe and elsewhere advocating for stricter immigration controls will gain momentum from his comments.
