Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Ukraine has received a Patriot air defense system from Israel. During a press conference, Zelensky confirmed that the Israeli Patriot system has been operational in Ukraine for a month, but did not specify whether it was purchased or provided as a gift.
Ukraine has reported that Russia has disconnected the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant from the electrical grid, intending to seize it and reconnect it under its own control, raising alarms about potential dangers. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated on the platform X: “Due to Russian activities, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been without electricity for four consecutive days, urging all nations concerned about nuclear safety and security to clearly signal to Russia the necessity of halting its nuclear gamble.”
Kuleba added, “Russia has established power lines extending 200 kilometers in preparation for an attempt to seize the plant and hook it up to its electrical network.” An Ukrainian security official indicated that long-range drones from Ukraine targeted an oil pumping station in the Chuvashia region of Russia, causing a fire and halting operations. The official noted that Ukraine’s security service continues to target the Russian oil sector, which provides significant revenue used to fund the war against Ukraine.
In response, Russia condemned the European Union’s plans to enhance its defenses against drones, asserting that the EU’s reaction to unidentified drones breaching its airspace will only escalate tensions. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that these measures would exacerbate military and political tensions across the continent, characterizing the plans as mere personal ambitions and political maneuvers by the EU’s ruling elites. Moreover, Russia declared yesterday that it has taken control of three villages in eastern Ukraine while its forces continue to advance amid intense battles. Russian troops are making slow but steady progress in an area heavily devastated in eastern Ukraine, which has seen a drastic reduction in both population and intact buildings. According to Russia’s defense ministry, it has gained around 0.8% of Ukrainian territory since the start of the year.
Drone Sightings
Meanwhile, two unidentified drones were spotted flying over Denmark’s largest military base, as reported by the police yesterday, marking another incident of this kind in what Danish officials are describing as a hybrid attack, possibly linked to Russia. Danish police officer Simon Sklesiar confirmed, “We recorded an incident that lasted for hours. One or two drones were observed over and around the airbase, specifically at Karup military base.” He emphasized that the police could not comment on the source of the drones but confirmed that they were not shot down, noting that law enforcement is collaborating with the military in the ongoing investigation.
Counteraction Plans
Additionally, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has announced plans to expedite the implementation of regulations aimed at improving counter-drone measures. Dobrindt told reporters in Berlin that he aims to accelerate the preparation of legal foundations and implement them promptly this autumn. He elaborated that these frameworks are currently under discussion as part of the restructuring of their drone defense system, and he noted that sightings of drone activity are increasing, indicating that the level of threat is rising.
