RTA and Terra Collaborate to Set Up Battery-Swapping Stations for Electric Delivery Bicycles

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has unveiled plans to set up a series of battery-swapping stations for electric bicycles at key sites across the emirate. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote eco-friendly transportation options and minimize carbon emissions.

This project will be executed in partnership with Terra Tech, a start-up focused on micro-mobility technology within the MENA region, renowned for its battery-swapping solutions. It is the first venture of its kind in the area, aimed at supporting emission-free delivery services.

The collaboration encompasses the design of a comprehensive system catered specifically to the delivery sector, ensuring that operators meet their charging needs while efficiently managing costs.

Invitation for Delivery and Commercial Partners to Join the RTA-Terra Initiative

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, stated that this initiative aligns with the objectives of the Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030, which seeks to reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent through the establishment of 36 operational sites throughout Dubai.

“This partnership fosters the development of sustainable energy alternatives and enhances the emirate’s readiness to embrace innovative technologies and practices that cut emissions, lessen noise pollution, and elevate service standards for both residents and visitors,” Mahboob remarked. He further invited delivery and commercial collaborators to engage with the initiative, promoting a more efficient and sustainable future.

Husam Al Zammar, CEO of Terra, referred to this collaboration as a significant achievement. “RTA has consistently reached notable milestones in infrastructure and sustainable transportation services accessible to all, especially regarding the governance, expansion, and advancement of the delivery sector, which is crucial for Dubai’s economic growth,” he noted.

Al Zammar expressed appreciation for RTA’s trust in their battery-swapping station solutions for the delivery sector, emphasizing their eagerness to collaborate to enhance the electric bike delivery network in Dubai.
