A report from the Syrian official news agency, SANA, indicates that a ceiling in the Saraya building of Damascus has collapsed, resulting in injuries and leaving individuals trapped under the rubble.
The Syrian Civil Defense announced via its official account on the platform X about a partial collapse of a ceiling in the Saraya building, which formerly housed the Ministry of Interior, located in the Marja Square area of central Damascus. This incident occurred on Wednesday during restoration work on the building, which had previously suffered a fire in June.
The Civil Defense reported that between five to six workers are trapped beneath the debris of the fallen ceiling.
Emergency teams from the Civil Defense have successfully rescued two workers and are continuing search and rescue operations, facing significant challenges due to the potential for further collapses during the ongoing efforts.
The Civil Defense also confirmed: “There are injured individuals and trapped individuals under the rubble following the collapse of a ceiling in one of the floors within the Saraya building in Marja Square, Damascus. Emergency teams are actively working at the scene.
