Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized during his address to the United Nations General Assembly that any aggression against Russia would be met with a vigorous response, and that NATO and the European Union should not doubt this position.
He also condemned the brutal killings of civilians in Gaza, highlighting the collective violence resulting in the deaths of children as indefensible.
Lavrov remarked that the current global landscape witnesses attempts to undermine the United Nations’ resolution regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state, describing these efforts as a form of coup d’état.
He stated, “In reality, we are confronting an effort to undermine the UN’s decisions concerning the creation of a Palestinian state,” and pointed out that several Western governments have recently announced their recognition of Palestine, despite having expressed intentions to do so months prior.
Lavrov questioned, “Why did they wait so long? It seems they hoped that soon there would be nothing left to acknowledge.” He argued that urgent measures are needed to avert such a scenario, a sentiment echoed by delegates at a recent high-level international conference on the Palestinian issue.
He concluded by asserting, “There is no justification for the brutal killings of Palestinian civilians, nor for terrorism. Collective punishment of Palestinians in Gaza is also without justification, as children are dying from bombings and starvation, hospitals and schools are being destroyed, and hundreds of thousands are left homeless.”
Additionally, Lavrov declared, “There is no rationale for the annexation of the West Bank, and there are attempts to violate the UN’s decisions regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state.
