Mohammed Bin Zayed Welcomes Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, welcomed Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, a leader in artificial intelligence research and development, during a meeting held today at the Al Ain Palace in Abu Dhabi.

The discussion focused on exploring ways to enhance collaboration between OpenAI and other institutions specializing in artificial intelligence, along with its applications and research in the UAE. This aligns with the nation’s vision for the future and its ambitions to create a comprehensive AI framework that supports its developmental plans and the establishment of a knowledge-based economy. Additionally, the talks aimed at reinforcing the UAE’s global leadership in this domain while opening up new avenues for innovation and collaboration across both public and private sectors.

Sam Altman expressed his admiration for the UAE’s AI vision and its outstanding global partnerships in this essential field.

Furthermore, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence honored Sam Altman with the first honorary doctorate, recognizing his impactful contributions and efforts in the AI sector.

Attendees of the meeting included His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; His Highness Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Advisor; His Highness Sheikh Diab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Head of the Presidential Court for Developmental Affairs; His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Head of the Presidential Court for Private Affairs; His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor to the President; His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Head of the President’s Office for Strategic Affairs and the Abu Dhabi Executive Office; His Excellency Mansour Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Head of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi; and His Excellency Ahmed Tamim Al Ketbi, Head of the Department of Government Empowerment – Abu Dhabi, along with several senior officials.
