Dubai Police Launches Cybersecurity Awareness Initiatives

The leadership of Dubai Police has reaffirmed its commitment to enhance public awareness regarding the threats posed by cyber attacks and preventive measures, through the launch of several initiatives directed at various segments of society.

This announcement was made during a press conference held in conjunction with Cybersecurity Awareness Month, observed every October, featuring contributions from Major Dr. Expert Said Bin Aabed, the Director of the Information Security Center in Dubai Police, along with Captain Engineer Khalil Al-Hosani, Deputy Director of the Cybercrime and Artificial Intelligence Crimes Department, and Captain Dr. Rashid Al-Balushi, Deputy Director of the International Protection Center.

Also present were Lieutenant Said Adel Al-Suwaidi, Head of Crime Forecasting and Analysis, Lieutenant Said Al-Wari from the Cybercrime Awareness Department, and several officers and journalists.

Major Dr. Expert Said Bin Aabed highlighted that Cybersecurity Month serves as a crucial opportunity to emphasize significant aspects related to digital security, with a primary focus on public awareness and education. He noted that the initiatives launched include competitions and informative quizzes accompanied by monetary prizes to encourage active participation.

An awareness exhibition was held at the Officers’ Club to promote digital security culture interactively for school students, utilizing the eCrime Hub as an educational and informational platform. Additionally, a “Capture the Flag (CTF)” competition is being organized for ethical hackers and those interested in cybersecurity, with designated prizes and objectives aimed at enhancing technical skills.

Meanwhile, Captain Engineer Khalil Al-Hosani stated that Dubai Police will concentrate on community awareness campaigns targeting school and university students, tourists, and all community members to increase digital awareness and protect their data from fraud and hacking attempts.

He emphasized that cybersecurity is now a cornerstone in protecting individuals and institutions from rising electronic threats, stressing that awareness and education represent the first line of defense against digital threats.

In a related remark, Captain Dr. Rashid Al-Balushi pointed out that Dubai Police’s commitment to the community extends beyond physical security to encompass the digital realm, which has become an integral part of daily life. Guided by the vision of becoming a global benchmark in ensuring security and safety, the police recognize the utmost importance of cybersecurity through the adoption of international best practices and the launch of innovative awareness initiatives aimed at empowering the community to confront any attempts at electronic breaches or exploitation.
