His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai, visited the platform of Empower, the Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation, on the inaugural day of the 27th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2025).
During his visit, he was briefed on the latest achievements of the company and its major projects, notably the district cooling project in the Business Bay area, which is recognized as the largest of its kind globally and holds two Guinness World Records.
Accompanying his Highness were Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and the founder and president of WETEX. Ahmed Bin Shafar, the CEO of Empower, provided an in-depth overview of the company’s key projects and its significant achievements in the global district cooling sector.
He reviewed the Business Bay project, through which Empower secured two consecutive Guinness World Records: one for the “Highest Cooling Capacity of a District Cooling Plant” with a connected capacity of 276,545 tons of cooling, and another for the “Largest Coverage of a District Cooling Plant in the World.”
Empower delivers services to 201 mixed-use buildings, including residential, commercial, hotel, and service facilities. Ahmed Bin Shafar stated: “The exceptional achievement of Empower in executing the world’s largest district cooling project reflects Dubai’s leading position as a global hub for innovation in energy and sustainability. These accomplishments align with the vision and directives of our wise leadership to enhance resource efficiency and establish the foundations of a green economy.”
