The United Arab Emirates has successfully concluded its participation in the 76th International Astronautical Congress, which took place in Sydney, Australia from September 29 to October 3, 2025, showcasing the latest advancements in the space sector.
Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency, emphasized that the nation’s leadership in various high-level international meetings, including the annual Artemis Accords meeting and the meeting of space agency leaders, highlights the UAE’s pioneering role in steering global dialogue and fostering collaboration for the peaceful and sustainable use of outer space.
He stated, “The UAE believes that space is a strategic tool that supports development and innovation, and enhances cooperation among nations to address the challenges our world faces.”
During the conference, the UAE made a remarkable contribution to scientific research and engaged actively with the global audience. National entities presented over 15 scientific papers across various space-related disciplines, and the UAE’s 400-square-meter pavilion welcomed more than 5,000 international delegates, experts, students, and researchers. A total of 79 representatives from the national space sector participated in the event.
In terms of interactive activities, government and private organizations conducted over 20 sessions and workshops focused on the UAE’s asteroid belt exploration mission, the Emirates Lunar Gateway project, geospatial solutions, the astronaut program, and the international expert team specializing in space situational awareness and economic zones in outer space, as well as startup initiatives.
The UAE pavilion also hosted more than 55 meetings to discuss collaboration opportunities and topics of mutual interest, involving over 200 companies and space agencies.
National Projects
Eng. Salem Al Dhaheri, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency, reported that the UAE space pavilion experienced significant engagement from senior officials, decision-makers, and international delegations, thereby highlighting the prominent national projects led by the agency.
Salem Hamid Al Marri, Director-General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, noted that their successful participation reaffirmed the vital role that space plays in uniting humanity on the path to knowledge, progress, and building a sustainable future.
Building Capabilities
Ali Al Shihhi, Director of the National Center for Space Science and Technology at the University of the Emirates, pointed out that this second-time participation not only reflects the continuous growth of their research and technical programs but also the unique role the National Center plays in leading advanced space missions and building the capabilities of young nationals.
Waleed Al Maskari, Head of the Space and Cyber Technology Sector at Edge Group, remarked that the involvement in the congress underscores the UAE’s steadfast commitment to driving innovation, enhancing international collaboration, and establishing sovereign national capabilities in the space domain.
Ralph Quis, Business Development Manager at Orbit Works, stated, “The initiative by the UAE Space Agency, which unites the national space ecosystem under one roof, has created a distinguished platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and opening new horizons.”
