Introducing Andre Saade: The General Manager Redefining a Riyadh Hotel for Vision 2030

Andre Saade, the General Manager of Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Center, Riyadh Minhal, embodies the spirit of legacy management.

As the driving force behind the transformation of one of Riyadh’s iconic hotels, Saade has guided the establishment towards modernity in line with the city’s Vision 2030 strategy.

Originally established in the 1980s, Minhal has served as more than just a hotel; it has been a central meeting place for dignitaries, families, and various delegations.

Now, as a part of the Radisson Blu collection, it merges its rich history with a contemporary aesthetic, wellness-oriented amenities, and a convention center designed for international gatherings.

In this interview, Saade discusses the integration of tradition and innovation, the factors enhancing guest satisfaction, and how Minhal is uniquely suited for Riyadh’s burgeoning MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) sector.

Minhal has been a prominent establishment in Riyadh since the 1980s. What original elements have been retained, and what significant changes were made during the 2025 rebranding

Minhal holds a significant position in the hospitality industry of Riyadh. Since its inception, it has hosted business executives, government representatives, and families, creating numerous unforgettable experiences. Retaining that sense of trust and community was crucial for us.

However, Riyadh has evolved dramatically. It is now a global hub attracting leaders, innovators, and travelers from across the globe. Accordingly, guest expectations have changed; people today look for a blend of productivity, wellness, relaxation, and enriching experiences during their stay.

The rebranding in 2025 aimed to adapt to these new expectations while honoring Minhal’s heritage. In collaboration with Radisson Blu, we enhanced every aspect of the guest experience: upgraded executive rooms, a sophisticated Business Class Lounge, wellness amenities, a rooftop pool offering panoramic views, and a convention center tailored for top-tier events. We preserved Minhal’s essence of accessibility and corporate relevance while introducing modern comforts and hospitable designs that mirror Riyadh’s aspirations and the requirements of today’s discerning visitors.

You have introduced executive rooms, a lounge, wellness amenities, and a rooftop pool. Which of these improvements has had the most significant impact on guest satisfaction and revenue per available room (RevPAR)

All enhancements have contributed positively, but the executive rooms and the Business Class Lounge have truly transformed the experience. Business travelers prioritize space, comfort, and efficiency; the lounge, with its dedicated boardroom and premium services, meets those needs perfectly. It provides a private setting for work, meetings, or relaxation, leading to increased guest satisfaction and higher RevPAR via extended stays and repeat patronage.

Simultaneously, our wellness facilities and rooftop pool have broadened the appeal of the hotel to leisure travelers and families. Radisson Blu Riyadh Minhal has transitioned from merely a business hotel to a destination where productivity and leisure harmoniously coexist, aligning seamlessly with Riyadh’s development and the Vision 2030 initiative.

With approximately 2,450 square meters of space and 14 meeting rooms capable of hosting large events, how are you positioning Minhal in Riyadh’s expanding MICE market? What sectors are showing strong interest

Our convention center stands out as one of the most adaptable venues in Riyadh, accommodating everything from high-profile summits and corporate meetings to weddings and social events. Boasting 2,450 square meters of flexible space with the capacity to host over 2,300 guests, we are witnessing interest from a diverse array of sectors, including corporate and governmental events, professional organizations, and international conventions, with new prospects emerging consistently. This reflects Riyadh’s growing importance as a center for business, innovation, and large-scale gatherings.

The exceptional catering service we provide, which merges global standards with traditional Saudi flavors, alongside convenient underground parking, enhances accessibility. Coupled with our warm hospitality, these aspects make Minhal a favored venue for both corporate functions and social gatherings. By aligning with Riyadh’s ascent as a global hub alongside Vision 2030, we position the hotel as not just an event venue, but a strategic partner committed to delivering flexibility, operational excellence, and unforgettable experiences.

What types of guests are currently staying at your hotel—business professionals, government officials, weekend travelers from the GCC, or international corporations? How are trends in length of stay and booking practices changing

We cater to a diverse clientele. While corporate guests and government delegations remain a core demographic, we are noticing significant growth in interest from GCC weekend travelers and international corporations attending events. The average length of stay is gradually increasing as Riyadh evolves into a longer-stay destination, fueled by Vision 2030 projects that attract both regional and global visitors.

Events such as Riyadh Season are encouraging leisure visits, successfully blending business travel with leisure. Booking trends are also shifting; while corporate stays are frequently arranged last-minute, events, weddings, and leisure trips are being planned more in advance. This results in a varied guest mix, and our aim is to ensure each visit is seamless, enjoyable, and memorable.

How is the influence of Vision 2030 reflected in your forward bookings and future plans? Which areas do you anticipate the highest demand over the next 12 to 18 months

Vision 2030 has greatly transformed Riyadh into a leading business and hospitality destination, fostering investments in culture, tourism, and infrastructure. Consequently, guests now expect world-class facilities and effortless experiences.

This is evident in our forward bookings, which peak around key events such as the World Defense Show, LEAP, Big 5, Riyadh Art Week, Fashion Week, Cityscape, HORECA, and Host Arabia. Looking ahead, the emergence of new business districts and large-scale projects—like Qiddiya and King Salman Park—will further bolster demand, drawing in delegations, corporate visitors, and prominent events. We project substantial growth in the MICE sector, alongside extended stays from international companies establishing a foothold in the region. These trends underscore Minhal’s position not just as a hotel, but as a key partner ready to ensure unforgettable experiences for both business and leisure travelers.

Having taken over in 2021 and guided the brand transition, what were some of the toughest operational challenges you encountered, and what change is your team most proud of

Transitions often breed uncertainty, and our team faced the daunting task of shifting from one brand to another—adapting to new standards and elevating service quality—all within an expedited eight-week timeframe, all while managing the hotel at peak occupancy. Striking a balance between daily operations and the swift transition was challenging yet essential for its success.

What fills me with pride is how our team tackled this challenge head-on. Together, we seized it as an opportunity, resulting in a Minhal that has not only been rebranded but is also reimagined, stronger, and ready for the future. The recognition for leadership is humbling, but it truly belongs to the team whose commitment and flexibility turned this vision into reality.

How are your hotel’s dining options and service design reflecting Saudi preferences while meeting global expectations? What experiences do you believe encapsulate ‘Minhal, reimagined’

Our food and beverage approach is rooted in authenticity combined with a global perspective. The Silk Road Restaurant presents international cuisine while honoring traditional spices and culinary practices that are cherished in Saudi culture. Meanwhile, La Veranda Café has emerged as a lively social hub where locals and visitors bond over artisanal coffee and light meals in an inviting outdoor atmosphere.

Beyond dining, our service exemplifies the warmth and hospitality typical of Saudi culture while adhering to the efficiency and consistency that international guests expect. ‘Minhal, reimagined’ is characterized by a harmonious balance: spacious, luxurious yet approachable accommodations; services that facilitate productivity alongside opportunities for relaxation; and areas designed for weddings, conferences, and cultural events to coexist seamlessly. It’s a versatile, welcoming hotel that embodies Saudi identity—a place where every guest feels at home.
