Kent, a leading global provider of integrated energy solutions, has been designated by ACWA Power as the Owner’s Engineer for the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub—one of the largest prospective green hydrogen and ammonia export facilities in the world. This initiative represents a key element of Saudi Arabia’s strategy for a clean energy transition and is in alignment with Vision 2030.
Situated in the coastal city of Yanbu by the Red Sea, the hub will encompass the full green hydrogen value chain, which includes renewable energy generation, desalination plants, ammonia production, and an export terminal. Once fully operational, the facility is projected to generate up to 400,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen each year, which will be transformed into over 2.2 million tonnes of green ammonia for international markets. The project features over 4 gigawatts of electrolysis capacity, nearly twice the size of the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project.
In its capacity as Owner’s Engineer, Kent will act as the technical representative for ACWA Power during the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase, which is being executed through a joint venture between Técnicas Reunidas and Sinopec. Kent’s responsibilities include ensuring adherence to international standards, evaluating safety and construction feasibility, managing integration across different project workstreams, and providing advice on design enhancement and risk management. The team will also assist ACWA Power in preparing for the transition to the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) phase.

John Gilley, Kent’s CEO, expressed pride in collaborating with ACWA Power on a project of such global importance. He stated, “Our position as Owner’s Engineer enables us to leverage our extensive technical expertise and long-standing experience in handling complex energy projects, paving the way for a safe, scalable, and sustainable hydrogen infrastructure.”
Marco Arcelli, CEO of ACWA Power, noted, “The Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub represents a significant advancement in achieving Saudi Arabia’s green hydrogen objectives and reinforces ACWA Power’s role as a pioneer and global leader in this crucial sector. This project showcases our dedication to innovation, scale, and the delivery of a sustainable and secure energy future. Our collaboration with Kent will ensure that the project receives superior technical oversight as we move towards a final investment decision and the construction phase.”
Kent’s involvement in the Yanbu project further broadens its energy transition initiatives in the Middle East, highlighting its ongoing commitment to the development of decarbonized energy infrastructure on a global scale.
