Planning to Fly with Emirates? Power Banks No Longer Allowed Onboard Starting October 1

As of October 1, 2025, Emirates Airlines will enforce a new regulation that prohibits the use of power banks throughout flights, marking a significant alteration in its safety protocols. Passengers can still pack a power bank in their carry-on luggage, provided it meets certain criteria, but using it to charge devices or even charging the power bank itself onboard will no longer be allowed.

A power bank is defined as a portable, rechargeable unit that supplies energy to smartphones, tablets, laptops, and cameras. According to a report from WAM, Emirates permits passengers to carry only one power bank with a capacity of less than 100 Watt Hours, but the use of these devices in-flight is now prohibited.

Key regulations include

  • Charging personal devices on board with power banks is not allowed.
  • Connecting power banks to the aircraft’s power outlet for charging is prohibited.
  • Power banks must clearly show their capacity and cannot be stored in overhead compartments.
  • These devices must be placed in seat pockets or in bags beneath the seat ahead.
  • Power banks remain banned from checked luggage as previously established.

The introduction of these rules aims to minimize potential dangers linked to lithium battery-powered gadgets, which have become increasingly prevalent among air passengers.

Reason for the Ban: A Step Towards Enhanced Safety

Emirates explains that this move follows a thorough safety assessment, highlighting the rising number of incidents involving lithium batteries within the global airline sector.

As more passengers carry power banks, the airline is taking decisive actions to address any potential risks.

By banning the in-flight use of power banks and stipulating secure storage areas, Emirates aims to allow cabin crew to respond swiftly in the unlikely event of a fire.

Safety remains a fundamental principle for Emirates and integral to its operational policies. The airline is dedicated to consistently improving safety measures for both passengers and crew. This new power bank regulation demonstrates that commitment and sets a possible standard for other international airlines to consider.
