Putin and Netanyahu Discuss the Situation in the Middle East

Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where they discussed the situation in the Middle East, including U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan regarding Gaza.

According to a statement from the Kremlin, “The two leaders engaged in an in-depth discussion on the current developments in the Middle East, particularly in relation to the U.S. president’s settlement plan for the Gaza Strip. President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed Russia’s consistent support for a comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue based on recognized international legal frameworks,” as reported by Russian news agency Sputnik.

The statement further mentioned, “Both sides exchanged views on other regional issues and expressed their interest, in particular, in finding negotiated solutions regarding the Iranian nuclear program and enhancing stability in Syria.”

Earlier, during the 22nd annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club, President Putin indicated that Russia has reviewed Trump’s plan for Palestine and suggested that there seems to be a glimmer of hope.

In his remarks about the Middle Eastern conflict, the Russian leader stated, “I feel there is still a light at the end of the tunnel,” emphasizing that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict cannot be resolved through Western methods.
