The United Arab Emirates has achieved a significant milestone in the realm of international journalism, as the Emirates Journalists Association secured a spot on the executive board of the Asia-Pacific Federation of Journalists, represented by media figure Reem Al-Breiki, a member of the association’s board.
During a recent virtual meeting overseen by the International Federation of Journalists, the general assembly of the federation elected new leadership for the term spanning 2025 to 2028. Indonesian journalist Nani Afriada was elected as the federation’s president, while Salem bin Hamad Al-Jahouri, the deputy head of the Oman Journalists Association, was re-elected as vice president for a second term.
The elections saw notable Arab representation, with four Arab journalists clinching prominent executive positions: Reem Al-Breiki from the UAE, Rasha Al-Ibrahim from Bahrain, Iaahed Frawna from Palestine, and Salem bin Hamad Al-Jahouri from Oman.
Reem Al-Breiki expressed her deep gratitude to all unions and journalistic associations that cast their votes for the UAE, emphasizing that this victory reflects the esteemed position the country holds on the global stage.
She added that this achievement is a result of the Emirates Journalists Association’s active participation in regional and international platforms over the past years, along with its unwavering support for journalism and journalists’ issues worldwide.
