Germany has pledged a military aid package exceeding $2 billion to Ukraine, coinciding with the Ukrainian government’s announcement of a need for $120 billion by 2026 to address the ongoing conflict that began in February 2022.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Germany will procure $500 million worth of American weapons for Ukraine as part of a new program aimed at accelerating the supply of military equipment.
Additionally, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, and Sweden have announced their participation in this funding initiative.
Pistorius highlighted that the German aid package addresses several urgent needs for Ukraine, including air defense systems, interceptor Patriot missiles, radar systems, precision-guided artillery, missiles, and ammunition.
He also mentioned that Germany will separately provide “two additional Iris-T air defense systems, a significant quantity of guided missiles, as well as portable air defense missiles,” alongside anti-tank weapons, communication devices, and light arms.
