Amazon UAE has introduced a new recycling program designed to facilitate the recycling of packaging materials from orders delivered through Amazon.ae, making it more convenient for customers in Dubai. This initiative is a collaboration with Enviroserve, a certified recycling partner recognized by the Dubai Municipality and the Ministry of Environment, and it includes the establishment of over 150 recycling drop-off spots throughout the city.
In line with the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030 and Amazon’s pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 under the Climate Pledge, this program allows customers to recycle various forms of Amazon packaging, such as cardboard boxes, plastic mailers, bubble-lined envelopes, and packing paper at specified locations.
Customers can easily find the nearest drop-off location by scanning a QR code on their Amazon.ae package, which directs them to the Amazon Second Chance webpage. This site serves as a key resource for recycling information, including details on how to recycle packaging, dispose of electronic waste, and participate in end-of-life programs for products. This initiative contributes to circular economy efforts by ensuring materials remain in use and decreasing landfill waste.
Drop-off sites have been placed in both residential and commercial neighborhoods throughout Dubai, with added recycling facilities in community villas and townhouse developments to enhance accessibility.
Prashant Saran, director of operations for Amazon in the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, remarked, “This program simplifies the recycling process for our customers while supporting the UAE’s sustainability objectives. By launching this service in the UAE, we are establishing the infrastructure needed for more responsible practices. Our partnership with Enviroserve is crucial for the effective processing of recycled materials, helping to divert packaging waste from landfills.”
Shashidhar Y S, managing director and board member at Enviroserve, commented, “By collaborating with Amazon, we are enhancing community access to recycling while supporting the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030. Ensuring that packaging materials are collected and processed responsibility helps retain valuable resources and reduces landfill waste.”
This initiative builds upon Amazon’s wider sustainability strategies, which include employing machine learning to optimize packaging size and reduce excess materials, along with programs like Ships in Product Packaging that remove the requirement for extra delivery boxes.
Through partnerships with certified recyclers such as Enviroserve and by developing an accessible network of community drop-off points, Amazon is promoting responsible waste management and strengthening its commitment to minimizing packaging waste in its operations.
