The initiative “AI-Powered Food Safety System” in Dubai has recently won the gold medal at the third Seoul Smart City Awards, under the category of Innovative Technology City. This event is organized by the Seoul City Government and the World Smart Cities Organization to honor the most innovative and pioneering projects in smart cities, emphasizing human well-being, digital transformation, and global inclusivity.
The Dubai Municipality explained that the “AI-Powered Food Safety System” signifies a comprehensive strategic shift in how food management and monitoring are conducted. By leveraging cutting-edge artificial intelligence and big data analytics, the aim is to enhance preventative measures, safeguard public health, and support the sustainability of food businesses in Dubai. The initiative, which is set to be implemented between 2026 and 2028, aligns with a broader vision to unify the existing food management system, which currently operates across several separate frameworks, including inspection systems, laboratories, services, and permits. Through this system, Dubai Municipality seeks to establish a centralized, reliable data source that facilitates seamless information flow between various departments, thereby improving decision-making speed and service quality for stakeholders.
The municipality highlighted that the system is built upon two main pillars: the unification of data within a highly reliable central platform and the development of a smart user interface supported by generative AI to provide instant recommendations and accurate analyses for employees, inspectors, and food businesses alike. Additionally, the system utilizes “AI Agents” that function as intelligent assistants for continuous data analysis and risk prediction, as well as organizing workflows across different departments to ensure a prompt and efficient response.
Dubai Municipality also noted that the initiative is expected to deliver various strategic benefits, including strengthening Dubai’s status as a global leader in digital food safety, enhancing risk prevention efficiency, improving immediate response to incidents, increasing local and international trust in the emirate’s food system, reducing operational costs, and boosting the efficiency of inspections and monitoring. Furthermore, it aims to support the sustainability of the food sector and improve public health indicators in the long term.
