Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the representative of the Abu Dhabi ruler in the Al Dhafra region and chairman of the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency, welcomed the organizing team of the Nature Conservation Conference 2025. This significant event, which took place in Abu Dhabi at the beginning of October, featured extensive global participation from experts, decision-makers, and stakeholders committed to environmental protection and biodiversity.
His Highness emphasized that the United Arab Emirates, under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, continues its steadfast approach to safeguarding the environment and conserving natural resources. The country is actively implementing comprehensive policies and legislation aimed at protecting species and natural habitats, as well as promoting community engagement in sustainability efforts.
He pointed out that the President’s directive to increase the area of nature reserves in Abu Dhabi to 20% of the emirate’s total land area reflects the nation’s commitment to enhancing biodiversity protection. This initiative includes the establishment of new terrestrial and marine reserves within the “Zayed Nature Reserves” network.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan noted that the success of the conference exemplifies the collaborative efforts of national institutions to unify visions and enhance cooperation among local and federal entities. He praised the leading role of the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency in accelerating the adoption of innovative environmental solutions and expanding partnerships to support the sustainability of ecosystems.
He also commended the outcomes of the Nature Conservation Conference 2025, highlighting the UAE’s pioneering role in leading global initiatives for nature. The event saw the participation of over 10,000 experts and representatives from 189 countries, who discussed and voted on more than 200 proposals aimed at strengthening environmental protection and biodiversity.
