The UAE cricket team bounced back from a disappointing defeat against the USA, demonstrating resilience and skill in their match against Nepal in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. This victory is particularly significant as it marks a crucial step in their journey towards the 2027 ODI World Cup.
In the match held in Dubai, the UAE successfully restricted Nepal to a score of 239 runs for nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Dhruv Parashar’s impressive off-spin bowling, claiming two wickets for just 28 runs, was instrumental in keeping the Nepalese batsmen in check. Additionally, Junaid Siddique’s left-arm pace also contributed with similar figures, ensuring that the UAE had a manageable target to chase.
Although the UAE faced an early setback with the dismissals of openers Alishan Sharafu and Aryansh Sharma, the team rallied through the middle order. Muhammad Shahdad delivered a commendable performance, scoring 96 runs off 123 balls. He was a key player in securing victory for his team, narrowly missing out on a century but nonetheless providing a strong foundation for the chase.
Shahdad received solid support from Muhammad Waseem, who scored 76 runs off 73 balls. Together, they forged a crucial partnership of 157 runs for the fourth wicket, turning the game in the UAE’s favor and leading them to victory with five balls to spare.
Nepal’s innings saw Bhim Sharki and Kushal Malla headline the batting effort, scoring 48 and 45 runs respectively. However, their inability to convert promising starts into bigger scores hindered the team’s overall performance.
With this victory, the UAE not only gained confidence but also signaled their intent to be competitive in the ongoing qualifying event for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The team will be looking to build on this momentum as they continue their journey in the tournament.
