Boston Blue: Everything You Need to Know About the New Blue Bloods Spin-off

CBS has announced the launch of “Boston Blue,” an exciting new addition to the “Blue Bloods” franchise. Donnie Wahlberg is set to reprise his role as Detective Danny Reagan, this time exchanging his NYPD badge for one in Boston. The series will maintain the essence of the Reagan family while exploring new settings, characters, and storylines.

The change of location from New York to Boston promises to bring a fresh dynamic, with the show expected to delve into intense narratives that highlight the unique grit of its new setting. Production for the series is set to commence this fall, generating anticipation among fans eager for new developments.

Sonequa Martin-Green has been cast as Detective Lena Silver, described as a sharp and fearless officer. Initially introduced with the surname Peters, her character is deeply connected to Boston. Joining her is an impressive lineup, including Gloria Reuben as District Attorney Mae Silver, Maggie Lawson as Police Superintendent Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as rookie Jonah Silver, and Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters, the family’s spiritual guide. This ensemble is set to create a character-driven narrative, enriching the series with emotional depth beyond action.

A significant change comes with Mika Amonsen taking on the role of Sean Reagan, Danny’s youngest son, who has now become a patrolman in Boston. This change follows Andrew Terraciano’s departure after 14 seasons on “Blue Bloods.”

The plot of “Boston Blue” follows Detective Danny Reagan as he leaves behind his familiar New York environment to tackle new challenges in Boston. He partners with Detective Lena Silver to navigate the complexities within the department, which are influenced by her family’s legacy. A key element of the storyline will focus on Danny’s developing relationship with Sean amidst the backdrop of Boston’s police politics.

“Boston Blue” is set to premiere on October 17, 2025, on CBS. Created by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, the series is executive produced by industry veterans Jerry Bruckheimer and Donnie Wahlberg. Following its broadcast, episodes will be available for streaming on Paramount+ the next day.

In response to frequently asked questions, it has been noted that the character of Nicky Reagan was recast after the pilot, though no specific reasons were provided. Salary reports for the cast reveal that Tom Selleck earned approximately $200,000 per episode, with other cast members earning over $100,000. Additionally, Sean and Jack Reagan are portrayed by real-life brothers Andrew and Tony Terraciano. The camaraderie among the “Blue Bloods” cast appears strong, as Wahlberg shared insights about their genuine affection and support for one another during scenes filmed together.
