Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club Launches Exciting New Golf Society League

Last weekend, the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club (SGSC) was alive with excitement as it hosted the inaugural round of the Golf Society League (GSL), supported by Golf Away. This event featured sixteen golf societies from across the UAE, all vying for the prestigious title of GSL Champions. The winning team will have the opportunity to enjoy a golfing holiday in Thailand, generously offered by Golf Away.

The sixteen participating societies were grouped into three leagues, with the top teams advancing to the knockout stages. This included the top three from League One, the top two from Leagues Two and Three, and the best-placed third team overall. The competitors were eager to make a strong impression during the opening round.

In League 1, the defending champions, Nepalese Golf Society, began their title defense against Dubai ExPutts. They secured one match win and halved another, accumulating early points, while the ExPutts managed to secure a single point. The All Stars garnered positive momentum with a win and a draw against The Grass Holes. Notably, The Hole Seekers showcased impressive skill by winning both matches against Al Puza, placing them at the top of the league early on.

League 2 saw Social 1 dominate Kegs 1, winning both matches and starting their campaign with a perfect record. A thrilling contest unfolded between Dubai Dragons 1 and Golf Linx 1, resulting in a split of matches and each team earning three points. The Sharjah Bunker Boys are set to join this league in the next fixture.

In League 3, both Golf Linx 2 and Social 2 claimed victories in their opening matches, keeping the competition fierce. The Spartans made a noteworthy impact by winning both matches against Kegs 2, taking the lead in the group. Meanwhile, Dubai Dragons 2 had a bye week and will kick off their campaign in the next round.

Players also participated in the Betterball Stableford competition for additional prizes. The standout pair, Deepak Mandory and Prashant Athreya from The Hole Seekers, topped the leaderboard with 42 points. Close behind, Syed Maqsood Ahmed and Adhip Shankar also reached 42 points but narrowly missed out on the top spot due to countback rules.

With the leagues having made a dynamic start, excitement is building for the next round of the Golf Society League at SGSC scheduled for December 7th. The upcoming event promises to deliver even more competitive and entertaining golf.

Key results from the first round highlight The Hole Seekers leading League 1, with notable performances from the Nepalese Golf Society in League 1 and The Spartans in League 3. Additionally, Social 1 emerged with a perfect start in League 2, while the day’s top Betterball Stableford score of 42 points was achieved by Deepak Mandory and Prashant Athreya.
