In a remarkable display of batting prowess, Akash Kumar Choudhary from Meghalaya etched his name in the record books by becoming the first player to hit eight consecutive sixes in first-class cricket. This breathtaking performance took place during a Ranji Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh.
Choudhary, typically recognized as a fast bowler, turned the spotlight on his batting skills, achieving the fastest half-century in first-class cricket history. On the second day of the match held in Surat, he stepped up to the crease when Meghalaya was at 576-6, ready to make an impact.
After a cautious start consisting of a dot ball and two singles, Choudhary unleashed an impressive display against left-arm spinner Limar Dabi. In a stunning sequence, he launched six sixes in just one over, joining cricket legends Garry Sobers and Ravi Shastri in an exclusive club.
Yet, Choudhary’s offensive did not end there. He continued his momentum by clearing the boundary twice more, reaching a remarkable 50 runs in only 11 balls. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 12 balls, held by Leicestershire’s Wayne White since 2012, thereby solidifying Choudhary’s status in the annals of cricket history.
