India’s all-rounder Richa Ghosh is aiming for success in the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup after contributing significantly to her country’s recent one-day international victory, despite dealing with a hairline fracture. With a bright smile and determination, the 22-year-old from Siliguri, West Bengal, looks forward to enhancing her skills through the Women’s Premier League (WPL), where she plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
In a recent video call with Reuters, Ghosh expressed the importance of the T20 World Cup to her career. “We have ticked the one-day World Cup off our list, but we have to tick the T20 World Cup as well,” she stated. With her sights set firmly on the tournament, she emphasized that her immediate focus is on the WPL, where her goal is to contribute to her team’s success regardless of the competition format.
Ghosh has been retained by RCB, joining renowned players like Smriti Mandhana and Ellyse Perry. The team is already strategizing for the next season, hoping to reclaim their title. “I can’t disclose all the things as of now, but our main focus is to bring the second trophy home,” she mentioned, hinting at the intense preparations underway.
During India’s ODI World Cup victory, Ghosh etched her name in the record books by matching Deandra Dottin’s record for the most sixes (12) in a women’s World Cup edition. Her standout performances in crucial matches, particularly a crucial innings against Australia and a solid contribution in the final against South Africa, showcased her resilience despite injuries.
Reflecting on her journey, Ghosh remarked, “Each and every player faces ups and downs, but how you tackle those lows is the real test of a player.” She credited her motivation to play for her country and acknowledged the support from her physiotherapists, which played a critical role in her recovery.
Beyond her role in white-ball cricket, Ghosh aspires to succeed in the longest format as well. With accolades like the 2023 Under-19 World Cup, 2022 Asian Games gold, and a 2022 Commonwealth Games silver since her international debut in 2020, she is keen to extend her achievements. “There is a different feeling while playing Test cricket because as a batter, you get many balls to bat. So, I want to score more and do much better in the red-ball format,” she added, highlighting her ambitions for upcoming challenges.
