Deepika Padukone has recently shifted her focus in the film industry, emphasizing storytelling over the pursuit of large-scale projects. After exiting two high-profile films, her perspective on success and the type of projects that excite her has evolved significantly.
In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar India, Deepika expressed that big-budget films no longer hold the same appeal for her. She stated, “At this stage, it’s not about that anymore. It’s not about the ₹100-crore films, or even the ₹500-600 crore ones.” The actress is now more interested in empowering others in the industry rather than simply achieving fame and financial success.
The actress’s departure from both Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film Spirit and the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD has marked a notable change in her career trajectory. Reports indicated that her exit from Spirit was linked to her request for an 8-hour work shift, a consideration for her responsibilities as a new mother. In her place, Triptii Dimri has been cast. Similarly, Deepika was released from her role in the Kalki sequel, which starred Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan and was a major hit in 2024.
Despite these changes, Deepika Padukone still has two significant projects in the pipeline. She will be reuniting with Shah Rukh Khan in the film King, directed by Siddharth Anand, which also features Suhana Khan. Additionally, she is set to share the screen with Allu Arjun in an unannounced project directed by Atlee. King is expected to premiere in 2026, while the yet-to-be-titled film is slated for release in 2027.
As Deepika takes this new approach to her career, her commitment to storytelling and supporting emerging talent indicates a promising direction for her future endeavors in the film industry.
